Making PubMed Work for You
January 30, 2012 – February 13, 2012
This three-week course covers the same materials as the in-person class, but take it at your own pace via Moodle. Hone your basic searching techniques and the ability to develop search strategies that will take advantage of the PubMed interface to MEDLINE. The course will explore various methods for searching the PubMed system. Topics covered include Automatic Term Mapping, Search Results, Limits and Details, Related citations, My NCBI, Searching with MeSH, and Topic Specific Queries. This class will be offered again in March.

This is a reprise of a presentation that was given at a symposium at UIC in December 2011. The second part of this symposium will take place in April. Max will give a brief overview of where mobile technology has intersected healthcare and how librarians are affected.

Patient Safety Resource Seminar: Librarians on the Front Lines
February 20, 2012 – March 30, 2012
This five week course focuses on ways librarians can become more involved in patient safety processes and activities – both within their institutions and organizations and by providing patient safety resources for health professionals, for administration and staff, and for patients and families. Topics include understanding the definitions and issues of patient safety; locating where patient safety practices and contacts exist within an institution; identifying appropriate resources; and library advocacy in the area of patient safety
