As Vice-Chair of the ACRL Science & Technology Section (STS) it is my responsibility this year to ensure that this continues to be a vibrant and relevant organization, which requires engaged and enthusiastic participation from the community.
I am writing to invite you all to help out and join an STS committee or discussion group! Opportunities are available in every possible area of interest from assessment to information literacy to research.
Committee terms begin immediately following the ALA Annual Conference in June 2010. The first step is to fill out a volunteer form, which is available (along with descriptions of committees and discussion groups) at
The deadline for volunteering is February 15, 2010 but don’t wait – sign up today!
To serve on a committee, you must:
· Be a member of ALA, ACRL, and the STS for the duration of the appointment
· Submit an electronic appointment acceptance form
Most appointment offers will be made before April 30, 2010, and all appointments will be confirmed by June 1, 2010. If you have any questions about the STS or about appointments please feel free to contact me directly. If you have questions regarding the volunteer form or process, please contact ACRL Program Coordinator Adam Burling at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312-280-2521.
The next few years are going to be exciting for the section, especially as we approach the 50th Anniversary of the STS to be celebrated in New Orleans in June 2011.
